1.
No stars in the sky tonight Just the highway and this vulgar sunset In the parking lot we sit side by side Your hip resting one foot from mine In the constellation of cars We have drawn ourselves
2.
I saw the most innocent love But a cloud was blurring it, fading it You turned your face toward the light And when the light entered your face I lost you

With cupped hands, I prob your mystery For each layer holds a story With a bucket, I will make a castle out of your flesh - out of your bones And at the top of each minaret, I will place a fossil A prayer, a witness of the past A jewel shining on us Through a sieve, I will silently watch the powder of time consuming itself And as my blood satisfy your thirst - And as you petrify my heart In your womb you will protect my secret Your offspring will bear beauty And their first cry will be an ode to truth

Surrender 09:25
As I surrender my body Life's mechanism starts to show itself It is the simple things - when you raise your eyes to me It is the simple things - when you ask if I need any help It is the simple things - when I watch quietly your lips form into a smile It is the simple things - when I feel your arm around my shoulders - that touch me most As muscles and bones blindly temper against the unknown I will turn a protective gaze toward my loved ones As I spring my legs forward to attend the everyday chores Awareness will slightly fall backward - like an echo - just a few steps behind Mindfulness will diss-synchronize itself from the flesh Falling behind the contour, the skinline of my body As I gently bend my neck on one side As consciousness fadingly echoes fleshness I will feel and receive your utmost attention

about

Devotion is François Minaux's debut album. He combines Experimental, Free Improvisation and Contemporary classical genres.

Devotion looks at the different aspects of humankind’s devotion during its existence on Earth. How it has venerated Earth, prob the mystery of existence and how it shares those experiences with each other.

The first song, Devotion portrays the practice of love between two human beings. It is about this intimate communion that links two persons when they devote oneself to the other.

The next piece, Powder of Time sees mankind’s life cycle on planet Earth during which it worships the place they are living on. Here, the ground is not only a kind of underground mausoleum but also the womb where life spring forth.

The last song, Surrender talks about the moment when oneself slows down its pace to synchronize with outer perception of everyday life. In this state of presence, we can not only better appreciate the simple things such as a smile, a hand on your shoulder or accepting help from others but also magnify consideration we have for each other.

The album was recorded and produced in Austin, TX, U.S.A. between July 2018 and July 2019 and in Labouillant, FRANCE between July 29 and July 31 2019.

The three songs where written, composed and recorded by François Minaux in Austin, TX U.S.A. Each song is followed or combined with an or some free improvisation sections where additional musicians can be heard. Most of the improvisation sections where recorded in Labouillant, France

All the music was composed, arranged and mixed by François Minaux.
